David Lund, PSCE President, participated in the 6G FORGE meeting on April 16, an important event aiming to guide the development of secure and resilient future communication networks. The 6G FORGE initiative gathers experts from industry, academia, and public organizations to reflect on the role of 6G technologies in building a safer, more connected society.
One of the key takeaways from the meeting was a strong message from industry professionals themselves: over half believe the telecoms industry is currently on the wrong track, emphasizing a critical need for a course correction in priorities. Security, societal needs, and resilience were highlighted as essential dimensions often overlooked in favour of purely technical or economic goals. Participants also underlined that future networks must be designed for speed and efficiency and for societal resilience, operational trust, and strategic autonomy. Other findings revealed surprises about industry expectations and exposed gaps in readiness for the future demands of public and critical communications.
Detailed reflections and insights from the organizers can be found here.
David contributed insights drawn from PSCE’s active participation in several European projects, such as:
- Fidal: Addressing critical aspects of public communication tools and infrastructure, ensuring diversity, logistics recovery, and capacity in times of crisis.
- EUCCS: Working towards the creation of a pan-European secure communication system by 2030 to enhance operational mobility and safety across Europe.
- 6G4Society: Exploring the role of mobile technology not just for economic competitiveness but as a pillar for societal resilience
The discussions also drew on major European reports, such as the Draghi Report on EU Competitiveness and the Niinistö Report on a safer, more prepared Union, reinforcing the political and societal motivations driving these initiatives.
Through its contributions to 6G FORGE, PSCE reaffirms its commitment to promoting resilient, secure, and future-proof communication infrastructures for Europe’s safety and societal wellbeing.
