On 28 and 29 November 2017, another PSCE conference successfully took place at the headquarters of the Spanish National Police in Madrid.
The PSCE conference in Madrid was the first in Europe to address the transition to new broadband from such a variety of perspectives. High national representatives and top-level experts from the US, UK, Norway, France and Belgium shared their experience, providing a status update while addressing the challenges and opportunities related broadband transition. The first stage towards the development of a pan-European interoperable public safety network resulting from the H2020 BroadMap project, was further presented. Other topics included the General Data Protection Regulation, the Use of Video in Public Safety and IoT for Public Safety and many more.
In addition to the outstanding presentations given by the key-note speakers, the conference provided an excellent platform to share information and to exchange points of view in the field of public safety communications. It also featured a brokerage session where participants were given the opportunity to start developing project ideas and find partners in the framework of the H2020 2018-2020 Security Work Programme. Finally, the conference allowed start-ups to showcase their product(s) and achievements to a relevant pool of experts in the public safety area. Overall the event brought together around 90 participants including public safety practitioners, policymakers, academic researchers, industrial experts and other interested stakeholders.
In Madrid, participants were taken to a guided tour of the 112 Madrid centre, famous for its modern and peculiar architecture, where they were shown a demonstration of an emergency response. Conference delegates were then offered the opportunity to pursue the discussions in a relaxed atmosphere during a networking diner in a typical Spanish restaurant located in the heart of the city.
We would like to express our gratitude towards the Spanish National Police and the Madrid 112 Centre for their support throughout the conference.
All conference documents have been made available to conference participants and to PSCE Institutional Members who have opportunity to download all presentations any time from the restricted part of the PSCE website.
The next PSCE conference will be held on 24 & 25 May 2018 in Brussels.
