EC President von der Leyen highlights role of EUCCS to enhance the security of the EU

On 17th September, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addressed a mission letter to the newly appointed Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner.

Magnus Brunner began his political career as a member of the municipal council of Höchst and has served as Austria’s Federal Minister since December 2021.

In their mission letter President von der Leyen outlined how Brunner’s mission will support the key pillars of the European political agenda for 2024-2029. Democracy, prosperity, and citizens’ freedom must be safeguarded. The EU’s security landscape is constantly evolving, directly affecting the lives of its citizens, as well as our societies and economies. To bolster Europe’s internal security, Commissioner Magnus Brunner will be tasked with shaping and updating EU legislation, policies, and operational responses. This unified approach will address issues related to migration, asylum, and borders.

Based on these premises, President von der Leyen highlighted the European Critical Communication System (EUCCS) as a crucial initiative to enhance the security of the European Union.

[…] “To improve the operational cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, you will work to develop and deploy a new European Critical Communication System to be used by public authorities in charge of security and safety.’

In light of this clear mandate, the work that BroadEUNet is leading and focusing on supporting the realization of the EUCCS is becoming more important than ever.
